Training Testimonials

My boys and I started with Ubasa wrestling back when it was Hawkeye kids club, we went to Pablo for his experience and the competition that the club had. I believe that our success though the kids wrestling and on into High School goes back to the days we spent time with Ubasas club. The kind of competion in that room help greatly in Dans four State titles and Nicks State appearances and now down to Chris. I could learn something each time I went to the club as a Dad and a Coach. Pablo really cares about his students and his character makes it fun for most kids. If you are looking for a local wrestling club with great work out partners and a very respected Coach I would encourage you to take a look at Ubasa wrestling club

“The Hawkeye Kids Wrestling School and Coach Pablo Ubasa helped take my wrestling career to places I never thought were possible.  Pablo is the perfect coach to push any kid to their full potential in the practice room, while also being great to have in the corner as well.  Pablo has the unique ability to break wrestlers down and build them back up to help them succeed on both the mat and in life.  I was able to wrestle with some of the best guys in the state on a daily basis, while also being pushed beyond my breaking point by Pablo.  Even though it was never easy, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”

I would recommend Pablo and The Ubasa Wrestling Academy to any wrestler, coach or team.  I have seen Pablo work with individuals, small groups and teams.  He is an excellent instructor who teaches winning wrestling techniques and provides athletes with the necessary mental skills to reach their potential.  Many of my athletes have had the opportunity to work with Pablo and we are better better because of it.

Pablo knows how to take kids from from their first day wrestling and make them State Champions and College All-Americans. His practices are fun, upbeat and I got a lot out of them. Jay Borschel – NCAA Champion, 4x Iowa High School State Champion

Pablo makes the sky the limit for kids to become great wrestlers. He keeps things fun, but also pushes kids to maximize their potential because he knows that the most fun thing you can do in wrestling is win. I would probably not have won 4 state titles without my years in Pablo’s wrestling club. Because of my few years with Pablo, when I got into high school I was not a freshman that was intimidated to step on the mat with a highly ranked junior or senior. Instead I had the mindset that something that most kids dream about doing by the time they are a senior is a realistic possibility right now. Pablo continued to be a valued mentor to me throughout my high school and college wrestling career.

I remember being an average wrestler at best and barely winning local tournaments before going to Pablo Ubasa’s club, to winning kids state and national titles and on through high school. Pablo accelerated my wrestling to a level I would not have reached without him. Even throughout my high school and college career I would still seek his advise. I try to replicate what Pablo taught and preached to me to my own kids club wrestlers. To those that know him well they would all agree he is “da man” when it comes to coaching.

I would travel 2 and a half hours one way 3 times a week to Pablo’s practices. If that doesn’t speak for itself I don’t know what will. Great coaching, great technique, and great partners. I’m truly grateful for everything Pablo did for me!

As Kyle closes this chapter of his life, namely youth wrestling, my entire family would like to thank you for everything you have done for Kyle.  You are, bar none, the BEST club/youth coach that has worked with him over the past 7 years.  Over the years I watched you develop a special mentoring relationship with so many of your students that lasted into high school, college and beyond.  I know that Kyle, like them, will always turn to you for support and learning even as he writes the next chapters of his life.

You have always been there every time I needed an extra session or a coach in the corner.

Thank you for everything you have done for him.

Pablo Ubasa and his passion for passing on his extensive wrestling knowledge have been the key to Zach’s (6th at 113lbs 3A)success in the wrestling room. As a positional and concept approach to wrestling are timeless and affective to all ages/levels. His methods are unchanged since he learned them from the all-time wrestling great Dan Gable. That is why I am so drawn to his “Train the Gable Way” approach to the game. If you teach a kid a move he may win a match, if you teach him how to battle, train, persevere, and understand position you give him the tools to win them all! Thanks for all you’ve done for Zach Pablo! You’re the best!
